Brain dump #2: I just know Al Gore gave Bugonia 5 stars on Letterboxd
Malala DM sliding, thoughts on armageddon, my short film, and more.
🫨 Gagging about: Malala DMing me
If you’re reading this, and you have the power to invite me to events of any kind, please do. This week, I attended a conversation between Shonda Rhimes and Malala Yousafzai (thank you Threads!!), and I’ll be the first to say it… those ladies really got something to say!! I posted a cheeky Instagram story to that effect, and was bewildered to receive not one but TWO “😂” reactions from Malala herself an hour later. How many of you can claim to have made a Nobel Peace Prize winner ijbol this week? That’s what I thought.
📚 Reading: Volume 0
I love short stories. Maybe that’s why my longest relationship was 13 months (🥁). I picked up the latest edition of Volume 0 this week, featuring some delish, voice-y prose from several talented writers – including oomf Ira Madison III. Pick up a print version to read at a coffee shop (chic), and/or subscribe to their Substack.
🎥 Watching: Auteur apocalypse fiction
This weekend, I started Pluribus (the new Apple TV series from Vince Gilligan) and finished Bugonia (the latest disturbing comedic masterpiece from Yorgos Lanthimos). Spoilers below:
Both of these pieces deal with the destruction of humanity and our unwitting complicity in said destruction. But to me, the spookiest perspective they share is how they depict the apocalypses as, well, peaceful. What’s a world without the egotistical, defiant destruction humans have wrought over the last couple centuries? A release. A serene calm. Both auteurs explore – and almost yearn for – the simplicity and peaceful coexistence of “the hive mind”. I personally plan to never die or suffer in any meaningful way, but something to think about for the rest of y’all!
🗣️ Promoting: My short film
Like my peers Vince and Yorgos, I have also recently completed a dark comedy. My short is called WET FLOOR and it’s my directorial debut. I learned a lot making it and I’m excited to have it premiering on both coasts (chic).
Los Angeles Queer Film Festival – Sunday November 16th / 6:30pm / The Other Space Theater

😒 Scoffing at: IKEA “DIY Hacks” that are secretly just advanced construction
Go ahead, king, screw those Am*zon cabinet pulls to that STORKLINTA side table. Oh, what the hell, why not… take a walnut varnish to it too, you crazy slut! Ok, now you’re adeptly handling a circular saw in a well-stocked woodshed. You’ve broken out an industrial sander. You’re swapping out the top for a slab of marble?? And you’re calling this a DIY?? Leave me the HELL alone.
